CURATOR: ALEX POOTS
Making its UK debut at SXSW London 2025, The Tree of Knowledge was featured as a centerpiece of the LDN LAB exhibition—a curated exploration of the intersection between art, technology, and physical space. This generative kenetic sculpture, a four-sided monolith, continuously transforms in response to live global data feeds, including news, finance, weather, and social media. Viewers can interact with the piece by toggling between “Signal” and “Noise” modes, experiencing the contrast between structured information and chaotic distortion.
A unique feature of the sculpture is the “choose violence” button, allowing the owner to trigger a temporary third state: Violence. This mode can only be activated 666 times before the sculpture permanently locks into a degraded condition, symbolizing the irreversible consequences of repeated destructive actions.
LDN LAB was curated by Alex Poots and produced by North Star Studio, presenting works that explore past, present, and future frontiers in the arts and technology. Alongside Beeple’s installation, the exhibition featured pieces by Andy Warhol, Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, and contributions from Hans Ulrich Obrist and Glitch Collective.
The exhibition was housed in Protein Studios, a 13,000 sq. ft. event space in Shoreditch, known for its industrial-chic aesthetic and history of hosting innovative cultural events. The venue’s versatile layout and creative atmosphere provided an ideal setting for the immersive and interactive nature of The Tree of Knowledge.
The Tree of Knowledge continues to operate in real time, reflecting the ongoing churn of global information—sometimes calm, sometimes chaotic, and always alive.
